ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Madrid North GU11 Places Second in Apple Valley Tournament
Last weekend, the Atletico Madrid's Girls U-11 soccer team participated in the Apple Valley May Madness Soccer Tournament. Madrid had a slow start, losing their first game to the Bakersfield Elite 2-1. Madrid then tied the Claremont Stars in their second game. Both teams had scoring opportunities in the first half, but the Stars took advantage of a defensive mistake and led 1-0 at halftime. The second half settled into a defensive battle. However, Madrid scored to tie the game in the last five minutes of the game, ending with a final score of 1-1. On Sunday, they beat Atletico Madrid '96, 4-0, ending as the runner-up in pool play. Madrid played the Bakersfield Elite in the championship game. This was another close,defensive battle. However, Madrid ended with a disappointing 1-0 loss.

The team has players from Paso Robles, Templeton, Creston, Atascadero, and Santa Maria. The team members are: Brynne Guzman, Karina Tovar, Juno Laing, Nikki Hatakeyama, Danielle Smith, Kalonie Mattson, Savanah Evans, Rainee Blair, Courtney Elterman, Sierra Azzarito, Kristina Raine, Mari Stewart, Lauren Giggy, Annabel Scott. Not present were Jessa Culver and Taylor Gaminde. Currently, Madrid has vacancies on their roster. Madrid North U11 Girls Place 2nd at Bakersfield Gunner Cup
The Atletico Madrid Girls U-11 team placed second this past weekend in the Bakersfield Gunners Cup Soccer Tournament. Madrid started strong on Saturday with a 0 - 0 tie against a talented Hollister team. Madrid then lost a heartbreaker to SSV Burbank 1 - 0 in the second game. The first half ended 0 - 0, but Burbank scored on a defensive mistake during the second half. On Sunday morning, a 6 - 0 win against United Black put Madrid against the Central Coast Aztecs. Madrid edged the Aztecs 1 - 0. Atletico Madrid consists of players from Atascadero, Creston, Santa Maria, and Templeton. Team members are Sierra Azzarito, Raine Blair, Jessa Culver, Courtney Elterman, Savanah Evans, Taylor Gaminde, Lauren Giggy, Brynne Guzman, Nikki Hatakeyama, Juno Laing, Kalonie Mattson, Kristina Raine, Annabel Scott, Mari Stewart, and Karina Tovar. Mario Pérez is the coach.
