Our club has two levels of play and development, designated "Premier" and "Black." Each Madrid "Premier" team participates in Southern California's Coast Soccer League (considered the most competitive playing circuit in the United States). Madrid Premier teams have league home games in Santa Barbara and can play a normal league game as far south as San Juan Capastrano. Madrid Premier teams participate in Cal South, Cal North and US Club sanctioned tournaments. Once the teams reach the appropriate age groups they strive for acceptance into college showcase tournaments such as Nomads, Surf Cup, Eclipse College Showcase, Las Vegas College Showcase and the Toyota College Showcase. The reason for more travel is to expose the kids on the Central Coast to the "best" soccer has to offer.
In order to play against clubs such as: FC Barcelona, San Diego Surf, Nomads, FC Bratz, Arsenal FC, Slammers, Irvine Strikers, SDSC Pegasus, West Coast FC, Eagles FC, LAFC, Wolfpack, OJSC Barcelona and CRSC Infinity, Honolulu Bulls (HI), Sereno White (AZ), Las Vegas Tabigators (LV), YOU MUST TRAVEL as this level of competition doesn't ususally find it's way to the Central Coast. That is a simple fact! If you don't play against clubs at that level than you might not have ever seen what the "best" is. It is our feeling that you must not just see these teams ... you must search them out and play against them, win or lose, as much as possible. It is our feeling that by traveling to play these teams, we expose our kids to a level of soccer and speed of play that we just don't see in local competitions.
Madrid Premier teams do participate in local tournaments as well to relieve some of the travel stress. Various Madrid Premier teams participate in SLO North v.s. South, Condors Classic and the SMISO Soccer Fest. It must be noted that all local tournaments are starting to draw better teams!
Madrid "Black" teams participate in local Central Coast Soccer League. Madrid Black teams are considered more developmental than the "Premier" teams. However, Madrid Black teams do strive to get better at soccer by playing against better competition down South. The focus on Madrid Black teams is to generate an interest in soccer and provide more kids an opportunity to play. Madrid Black teams are provided a professional trainer or coach who meets the clubs coaching requirements.
Year Round Commitment to Soccer
Madrid players are encouraged to excel in the sport of soccer. This does not mean that Madrid kids are not allowed to play any other sports. Madrid has several athletes that participate in volleyball, basketball, tennis, track, cross-country and dance.
Madrid players are able to make any decision they want in regard to what sports they play. Our feeling is this ... if you play 3 sports you can / might be good at all three. However, if you play one sport you could be great (simply by more focused practice time at specific skill sets). If a player elects to participate in several sports and take away from soccer, he or she runs the risk of being passed up by players who select soccer "year round." That is a decision they make on their own. Madrid players are expected to attend all team training sessions for their specific team even if they are participating in other sports.
Conclusion
Each club on the Central Coast does do good things for soccer and our local kids. Each club on the Central Coast has trainers and operates in their own way. Each family that participates in any local club is doing so because they have a set of choices to make.
Madrid Premier Soccer Club s not for everyone. Madrid is for the player who is looking for exactly what we provide.
